On 4th June 2024, we were very lucky to have been visited by Jo Bostock from BBC Radio Leicester and her very special friend from the channel 4 show 'Hunted.' Jo came as a surprise for Evie -Mae, one of our Year 5 pupils, who has been named as a finalist in the BBC Radio Leicester Make a Difference Awards in the Bravery category. The awards are to recognise the people and groups who go the extra mile in our communities and make that difference. All the pupils and staff are so proud of her and her nomination for such a prestigious award. We cannot wait to see if she wins the final award on 5th September!
Evie-Mae's winning nomination:
‘Evie-mae is a remarkable 9 year old who has survived cancer, diagnosed when she was only 2, she has fought her way through over 2 years of treatment with a positive attitude and a personality that could light up a room. She missed a lot of school while she was being treated but her hard work and determination meant she has managed to keep up with her school friends and academically she has achieved everything expected of her. She has taken part in lots of fund raising over the years, including raffling off her push bike to raise money for the hospital that treated her. She attends a group called Badger's which is mainly first aid based but other topics are studied too and she was recently awarded the highest possible achievement that a badger can earn.
She has worked very hard over the last 4 years to achieve this and we are so very proud of her. As she is now one of the oldest badgers she has taken to helping to mentor the younger group members. I think she truly deserves this award as she has not let everything she has been through stop her from achieving her goals and she always goes the extra mile to get where she wants to be.’
