Admissions - Applying for a place

Our Outstanding School

Newcroft is an extremely popular primary school. We have places for 420 pupils from Reception to Year 6. We have a capped intake of 60 pupils (2 classes of 30) in each year group. We can take children into classes at any point in the year, if we have spaces.  We also take children out of catchment to support parents in finding the right school for them.  Newcroft is part of Symphony Learning Trust and as so we abide by the Symphony Learning Trust Admissions Policy.

See what makes our school Ofsted rated 'outstanding in all areas.'

Find out more about our brand new Forest School is open on site from August 2025! Find out more here about how all Newcroft children, including Pre School, will access our wonderful woodland!

As the only Ofsted rated 'Outstanding in all areas' school in Shepshed, come and find out what makes our school an exceptional place to learn by booking a tour. Please contact the office to make an appointment.

Do you have a Reception child starting school in August 2026?

Our formal open days have now ended for prospective pupils and their families. The closing date was 15th January 2026. If you have missed the application deadline, please apply by the end of January 2026 and your application will be handled as late. Apply here. Please see our Admissions Policy about how places are allocated.

Parents who have made an on time application will be allocated their child's school place on 16th April 2026 from Leicestershire Local Authority.  Please note that if your child has secured a place at Newcroft, you will receive an email from the school welcoming you and introducing our program of induction. Please contact the office if you have not heard from us by the end of the day on 17th April 2026.

Help your child to get ready for school by taking a look at the DfE guidance for parents.

Do you have a child starting school in August 2027?

Individual tours of school are also welcomed from the Autumn term 2026 for admission to school in autumn 2027. Contact the office to book.

Applications are welcome from families who live in and out of our catchment area. The vast majority of our pupils do not live in our catchment area. Find our more about how the local authority admits places to our school here.

How to apply for a Reception place

Parents should make an application for our school via the Leicestershire Local Authority website. The authority manage our admissions as part of their co-opted scheme. Applications for Reception 2027 pupils open on 1st September 2026 and close on 15th January 2027. Parents are notified of their child's allocated school place on 16th April 2027. Find our more from the LA here.

Applying for a place mid year for all year groups

If you are interested in a place for your child and wish to move them from another school during the academic year (this is called a mid term or mid year transfer), please call our office to find out if we have any places in the year group, before making an application to the Leicestershire Local Authority. We have 2 classes in each year group (60 places for each year group).

Do contact our school office to find out if we have space in your child's year group and to book a place to have a personal tour of the school with our Head teacher.

Applications are welcome from families who live in and out of our catchment area. The vast majority of our pupils do not live in our catchment area.

The local authority use our Admissions Policy to guide them in offering places at our school.
