Uniform

The Governors and Senior Leadership team of Newcroft Primary Academy have an expectation that children will wear school uniform to:

  • foster respect and pride in appearance;
  • help establish a positive attitude to school;
  • differentiate between leisure and school time and associated expectations;
  • help reinforce the sense of belonging and identity;
  • encourage children to recognise what the outside world expects;
  • prepare children for secondary school.

Our uniform policy can be found here in our policies section.

Our School Uniform Requirements

It is our priority to ensure that uniform is of low cost and that parents are able to access second hand uniform. Parents may opt for their children to wear plain or logo/ branded uniform, available from our low cost suppliers below. Plain uniform is available from all supermarkets. Our Friends of Newcroft PTA run a second hand uniform sale on their Facebook page. Many of these items are free of charge or charged at a very low cost. The school also has a stock of second hand uniform for families who need support with ensuring their child has the uniform needed. We encourage families to pass uniform down through siblings and friends.

When making decisions about our uniform policy, we have considered the school’s obligations under the Human Rights Act, 1998 and Equality Act, 2010. We have considered the impact of our policy on pupils with the following protected characteristics:  sex, religion or belief, race (including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin), disability, gender reassignment or pregnancy. Parents are encouraged to speak to the Head teacher or SENCo where relevant, about how we can support their child in making adaptations to our uniform. This applies to all pupils.

PE kit

We have 4 houses at Newcroft: Swithland (blue), Beaumanor (red), Beacon (yellow) and Bradgate (green). All pupils represent their houses in PE and parents are asked to purchase a PE T shirt in the house colours together with plain black shorts to be worn in PE sessions. These do not need to have the school logo on and can be purchased at any supermarket. All children starting at Newcroft follow in the footsteps of their older sibling/s and are allocated the same house, so that uniform can be passed down.

Other Acceptable Clothing:

  • Any headwear may be worn for religious or cultural purposes. This should be plain black. This may also be worn for PE.
  • Leggings or jogging bottoms may be worn as part of the basic school uniform. Parents should contact the Head teacher or SENCo, to discuss their child’s needs and to obtain permission.

The following items are not suitable for school:

  • Jeans
  • Football shirts/shorts
  • Designer shoes or clothing
  • Platform-soled shoes
  • Crop tops and shoestring strapped tops
  • Crocs

Purchasing Uniform

All other uniform can be purchased from our uniform suppliers. Please see our suppliers below, which supply uniform with our logo on. It is not a requirement for children to wear uniform with a logo on. As such, uniform can be purchased from any supermarket at a low cost.  Uniform can be delivered to the school office, free of charge from the following chosen suppliers who stock our logo branded uniform:

My Clothing.com          Just School Wear          Rosebuddies

How we ensure our uniform is 'good value' and accessible to all

It is our priority to ensure that uniform is of low cost and that parents are able to access second hand uniform.

  • Parents may opt for their children to wear plain or logo/ branded uniform. Plain uniform is available from all supermarkets and other suppliers at a low cost.
  • Logo/ branded uniform can be purchased from one of our 3 suppliers, at a low cost.
  • Our Friends of Newcroft PTA run a second hand uniform sale on their Facebook page during the summer term. Many of these items are free of charge.
  • The school holds stock of second hand and new uniform in all sizes. Parents should speak to the office or their child's class teacher at any time.
  • Pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium funding are automatically funded for 50% of their uniform costs. Parents should contact the office for support.
  • We encourage families to pass uniform down through siblings and friends. To support this, we have 4 houses with coloured T shirts and jumpers for PE. All children starting at Newcroft follow in the footsteps of their older sibling/s and are allocated the same house.
  • We made some small changes to our sheep logo in 2019-20, but have simply phased this in. Children continue to wear the old and newer logos.
  • Our indoor and outdoor shoe system allows for parents to send their child in low cost plimsolls for indoor shoes and trainers for outdoor. Expensive black school shoes are not a requirement at Newcroft.

Shoes

Children should wear appropriate footwear for school to ensure their safety.

Newcroft has an ‘indoor’ and ‘outdoor’ shoe policy to provide comfort while learning and to keep our carpets and classroom floors clean where pupils sit. This also enables children to enjoy the outdoors without being concerned that their footwear is too dirty to wear indoors.

Children are required to have a separate pair of dark, clean, flat and comfortable indoor shoes and these will be left in school (until they need to be replaced). Children need a further pair of trainers or outdoor shoes that can also be used for outdoor PE.

Please see our uniform policy for details of PE kits, swimming kits and jewellery and cosmetic guidance.
