This half term our topic is called 'Out of India' and it is a geography based topic of learning. We will be comparing our local area of Shepshed to Agra, India and looking at the physical and human features of both localities.
In English, our reading texts will be 'The Wheels on the Tuk Tuk' by Kabir Sehgal, 'Tiger Child' by Joanna Troughton and 'Runaway Chapatti' by Susan Price. We will be writing a poem in the style of The Wheels on the Tuk Tuk, retelling the Tiger Child and writing instructions to make chapattis.
In Maths, we start the year by learning about place value before moving on to addition and subtraction. We begin learning our times tables in Year 2 with focuses on 2s, 5s and 10s - the children will also start playing on Times Tables Rockstars to support their practice and mathematical development.
Across the curriculum, other areas of learning includes animals needs for survival in Science, batik printing in Art and Design and 'Why do we need to give thanks?' in RE.
Mrs Woodward's class have PE on a Monday and Friday.
Mrs Cran's class have PE on a Tuesday and Friday.
This half term, the children will continue to take part in our Regular Readers initiative. We would like to remind parents that children need to read 3 times throughout the week in order for children to earn their Dojos and earn their invitation to this term's film showing, for consistently being a regular reader, during the last week of term.
Weekly homework will be set on a Monday and due in the following Monday. Please check in your child’s home school diary for the insert each week - this will also be set out via WEDUC to parents each week. Your child will also be given weekly spellings on a Monday. These spellings will then be tested on the following Monday during our weekly spelling lesson. Times Tables Rockstars logins are stuck in the back of Home School Diaries, please encourage your children to practise as often as possible.
