This half term our topic is ‘Saving the Rainforest.’ We will be revisiting the continents of the world and the oceans. Then we will be looking at where in the world the rainforests are, and what animals live there.
In English, our reading text reflects this topic ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ by Lynne Cherry. We will be learning about and then writing a description, a persuasive letter and riddles.
In Maths, we will be learning about money and time. We begin learning our times tables in Year 2 with focuses on 2s, 5s and 10s - the children will also play on Times Tables Rockstars to support their practice and mathematical development.
Across the curriculum, other areas of learning include plants, growing up and wildlife in Science. Our Design Technology is learning about and preparing healthy and yummy wraps. In RE we will be learning about ‘Where do some people talk to God?’
Most exciting is our sleepover in June with lots of fun activities for the children throughout the day on Friday whether or not they have stayed at school for the night before.
Mrs Woodward's class have PE on a Wednesday and Thursday.
Mrs Cran's class have PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
This half term, the children will continue to take part in our Regular Readers initiative. We would like to remind parents that children need to read 3 times throughout the week in order for children to earn their Dojos and earn their invitation to this term's film showing, for consistently being a regular reader, during the last week of term.
Weekly homework will be set on a Monday and due in the following Monday. Please check in your child’s home school diary for the insert each week - this will also be set out via WEDUC to parents each week. Your child will also be given weekly spellings on a Monday. These spellings will then be tested on the following Monday during our weekly spelling lesson. Times Tables Rockstars logins are stuck in the back of Home School Diaries, please encourage your children to practise as often as possible.
