This half term we continue our topic 'London’s Burning!’ our history-based topic of learning studying the Great Fire of London. We will look at how London was rebuilt after the fire and how it impacted the future. As part of this topic we will also be having a visit from a real fireman who will tell us all about his job, and answer questions that the children may have.
In English, our reading text will be 'Charlie and the Great Fire of London’ by Sue Finnie and Dani Le Boudair. The children will be writing an explanation text and instructions.
In Maths, we will be learning about length, height, capacity and volume. We will also be learning about money, counting pounds and pence, then comparing and calculating amounts of money. We begin learning our times tables in Year 2 with focuses on 2s, 5s and 10s - the children will also play on Times Tables Rockstars to support their practice and mathematical development.
Across the curriculum, other areas of learning include plants and growing up in Science, looking at different life cycles. Our Art is collage, creating an artwork of the Great Fire of London. In RE we will be learning about ‘How do some people talk to God?’
Mrs Woodward's class have PE on a Wednesday and Thursday.
Mrs Cran's class have PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
This half term, the children will continue to take part in our Regular Readers initiative. We would like to remind parents that children need to read 3 times throughout the week in order for children to earn their Dojos and earn their invitation to this term's film showing, for consistently being a regular reader, during the last week of term.
Weekly homework will be set on a Monday and due in the following Monday. Please check in your child’s home school diary for the insert each week - this will also be set out via WEDUC to parents each week. Your child will also be given weekly spellings on a Monday. These spellings will then be tested on the following Monday during our weekly spelling lesson. Times Tables Rockstars logins are stuck in the back of Home School Diaries, please encourage your children to practise as often as possible.
