Welcome to Year 3!
We hope you had a fantastic summer holiday.
This half term, our exciting new topic is Stone Alone, with a focus on history. Our enquiry question will be: “How did daily life change from the Stone Age to the Iron Age?”
In English, we’ll be exploring the texts Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura and Stig of the Dump by Clive King. We’ll be writing a diary entry, a narrative, and an engaging non-chronological report.
In Art, we’ll learn how to make Stone Age tools, practising skills such as knot-tying and clay techniques.
In Science, our focus will be on skeletons, movement, nutrition, and diet. We’ll explore different food groups and understand the function of the skeleton, including exoskeletons.
We’re also looking forward to a Stone Age workshop, as well as a visit to Nottingham Cathedral to learn about religion through real-life experiences.
Year 3 has a very exciting half term ahead, and all the teachers are looking forward to the fantastic learning to come!
Miss Lloyd’s class has PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Mr Preece’s class has PE on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Please ensure that children have the correct PE kit, suitable for both indoor and outdoor activities.
This half term, children will continue to take part in our Regular Readers initiative.
We kindly remind parents that children need to read at least three times per week to qualify for the Regular Reader Treat at the end of the term. This reward celebrates those who have consistently met the reading expectation throughout the half term.
Thank you for your continued support in encouraging a love of reading at home!
The children will continue to receive weekly spellings on Mondays and tested on the following Monday. These spellings are taught in school during that week by the class teacher.
Children need to practise games on Times Table Rockstars three times a week. The children's login information can be found inside their diary.
