Safeguarding

Safeguarding is at the core of all we do at Newcroft. Safeguarding our children is the responsibility and 'everyone's business' at our school.

If you have concerns about a child within school hours, please contact the office and ask for Mrs Aukland, who is our Designated Safeguarding Leader on 01509 503214. In her absence, please ask to speak to Miss Brailsford, Head of School. If you have a concern out of hours and need help or need to report a concern, call 0116 305 0005. This will direct you to Leicestershire Children's Social Services. If a child is immediately at risk, please call the Police.

Key Safeguarding Contacts

Our Designated Safeguarding Leader is Mrs Sara Aukland, Head teacher. Mrs Aukland is also the Prevent leader for the school. Mrs Vikki Rundle- Brown is our Governor responsible for Safeguarding and is also the school's Chair of Governors.

Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding leaders are:

Miss Alice Brailsford, Head of School/ Deputy Head teacher

Miss Lucy Lloyd, Assistant SENCo

Mr Jamie Pratt,  Assistant Head teacher

Mrs Katie Collins is also a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leader for our Pre School setting.

Multi Agency partnership working with safeguarding professionals

We are proud to have strong partnership links and a great deal of experience of working with a range of services including: social care, virtual schools, post adoption, CAFCASS, Family Help, CAMHS and our NHS and private health services.

If you need support for you or your child, please contact our school office and speak to our DSL/ DDSL team.

Our comprehensive safeguarding policy is available in our policies tab. This is supported by our Low Level Concerns policy, Anti Bullying policy, Child on Child Abuse Policy, Online Safety policy, Behaviour policy, Relationships and Sex Education policy and Designated Teacher for Looked After Children policy, as well as many other policies.

Operation Encompass

Our school is part of Operation Encompass. Mrs Aukland is the Operation Encompass key adult. This is a police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people who experience Domestic Abuse. Our school proud to take part in Operation Encompass information sharing, which involves the police sharing information with the school's DSL/ DDSLs about incidents reported to them that may have caused trauma to a child around domestic abuse. This involves reporting incidents that the police have attended where they feel there has been an impact upon a child’s physical, emotional or mental well-being. This information is shared so that our school can better understand children’s lived experience and can support, nurture and care for them more effectively. Our school has trained key adults in place who are trained to support pupils through 'silent support.'

Prevent

Prevent is the UK government's counter-terrorism strategy component focused on stopping individuals from being drawn into terrorism or supporting extremist ideologies, by identifying vulnerable people, addressing radicalisation risks, and offering tailored support, working with partners like schools, police, and health services to protect individuals and communities from terrorist influences.

You can find out more about PREVENT here and how we support parents. Please also find our Prevent Risk Assessment here.

Online Safety

Parents should notify a member of staff or the head teacher of any concerns or queries regarding online safety in school and concerns they may have regarding cyberbullying outside of school.

Parents and carers can seek further guidance on keeping children safe online from the following organisations and websites:

  • What are the issues? – UK Safer Internet Centre
  • Help and advice for parents/carers – Childnet
  • Parents and carers resource sheet – Childnet
