This half term, we will be travelling back in time to explore the fascinating world of the Ancient Maya civilisation. Through our topic, Mighty Maya, children will investigate who the Maya were, where they lived and how this remarkable civilisation developed. We will learn about Maya society, achievements, beliefs and daily life, while considering the legacy they have left behind.
In English, our class text is The Curse of the Maya by Johnny Pearce and Andy Loneragan. This exciting adventure story will inspire the children to develop their writing skills through a range of genres, including instructions, non-chronological reports and narrative writing. The children will use their historical knowledge and imagination to create engaging pieces for different audiences and purposes.
Across the wider curriculum, we will continue learning about living things and their habitats in Science, exploring how animals and plants adapt to their environments. In PE, children will develop their teamwork, tactical awareness and physical skills through volleyball, dodgeball, badminton and handball. Through our history learning, we will investigate Maya inventions, architecture, religious beliefs and the reasons behind the decline of this once-powerful civilisation. This topic will encourage children to think critically, ask questions and make connections between past and present societies.
Mr Pratt's class have PE on a Tuesday and Forest School on a Friday (Autumn 1: Week 1-4).
Miss Brailsford and Mrs Martin's class have PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday and Forest School on a Friday (Autumn 1: Week 1-4).
