Our 'core curriculum' is enhanced by our character curriculum, which acts as a golden thread in all we do at school. Our Character curriculum develops life skills, character traits, attributes and behaviours which have a positive impact on wellbeing, confidence and life throughout school. Essentially, it prepares our learners for life outside Newcroft and beyond.
Written for our pupils, we teach a Routes to Resilience based curriculum focussed on 30 'Character Keys.' These keys were designed by every member of staff who works at Newcroft, as key character traits that will support pupils in the classroom and beyond to be successful and achieve their full potential. We have 30 ‘character keys’ which are split into: 10 Reception words, 10 KS1 words and 10 KS2 words
Click to view all of the keys.
In 2021, we began working with Commando Joe's to enhance our Character Curriculum even further and give pupils regular and focussed work outside of the traditional primary school curriculum to develop their character. The programme is designed as a whole school approach from Reception to Year 6 ensuring all pupils reach their full potential. At Newcroft, we also run lunchtime and after school clubs with our Commando Dale. Find out more here.
